Samuel Johnson

Life Skills Instructor
Originally from North Carolina, Sam relocated to Vermont in 2025 to work at Confluence. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Experiential Education and Psychology from Appalachian State University and has a background as a whitewater raft guide, wilderness skills instructor, and therapeutic mentor. In between professional roles, Sam has undertaken personal travel and adventure with the intention of having fun, building resilience, and growing his connection with the world and the beings that inhabit it. The most impactful of these journeys have been walking from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail and biking through the South Island of New Zealand volunteering at homesteads and farms along the way. Sam finds purpose in supporting individuals to explore what lies beyond their comfort zones and empowering them with the tools, knowledge, and practice needed to navigate the metaphorical (sometimes literal) “Wilderness” that life can be.
